Liverpool Odds To Win The Premier League in 2017-18

Liverpool Odds To Win The Premier League in 2017-18
The start of the 2017/18 English Premier League Season is just weeks away and Liverpool are again one of the favourites. We preview the upcoming season and take a look at the teams schedule, likely lineup and of course the odds on the Reds winning the title.

Liverpool Odds To Win The Premier League

Liverpool is one of the largest, well-known and most widely supported football clubs in the world and are one of the most successful clubs in England with 18 First Division titles and 7 FA Cups, while their 8 League Cup triumphs is unmatched by any other English club. Liverpool are also England’s most successful club in European competitions, with 11 major trophies. Their record of five European Cups / Champions League trophies is bettered by only Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

While the club has won seven major trophies since the turn of the century, most recently their League Cup victory in 2012, it is clear that the fans of the Reds expect nothing other than Premier League success, and are not pleased that no such triumph has occurred since the 1989/90 season. Supporters of other clubs have no problems reminding Liverpool fans that technically they have never won the Premier League, and only a win will silence the haters.

Fortunately, things are looking promising for Liverpool heading into the 2017/18 season, and although one could argue that as it stands the Premier League is possibly more competitive than it has ever been in history, the Reds certainly look just as likely as ever to break their drought and lift the elusive EPL trophy.

Odds To Win The English Premier League in 2017 2018

Under Jurgen Klopp the team has built slowly over the last three seasons and finally secured a (likely) return to the Champions League, an achievement that sees them join Europe’s elite clubs and provides decent bargaining power when attempting to attract the world’s best players.

Now that the club has an elite manager who promotes attacking football, and is in qualifying for the world’s most prestigious tournament, Liverpool should have no problem signing the superstars that can help them experience success this season.

So where do Liverpool rank in terms of Premier League Betting?

At the time of writing, Liverpool are sixth on the list according to Bet365.com. This presents outstanding value for a team that is continuing to grow under Klopp’s leadership and still have plenty of transfer targets. With so much of the off season still to pan out, Jumping on Liverpool at their current odds is definitely advisable – they are unlikely to appear at better odds for the rest of the season – at least until if/when they fall out of contention.

Liverpool Schedule For 2017-18

Liverpool were incredibly successful in the first half of last season’s Premier League through a combination of consistent squad availability and a relatively tame schedule when compared to the other big clubs who juggled European commitments.

Injuries to key players around the busy Christmas period in addition to key performer Sadio Mane heading off to the African Cup of Nations really crippled the Reds in early 2017 and they bombed out of both cups and Premier League contention by the end of February.

It’s therefore absolutely critical that Klopp manages his squad successfully if Liverpool are to be any hope of experiencing success in the Premier League this season. He will need to build up the fringe players to a level that makes the side competitive in the absence of the big names – some of last year’s bench players were almost laughable and gave him no option when the game needed to be chased, or if a top player suffered an injury.

As far as the Premier League is concerned, Liverpool’s campaign kicks off on Saturday August 12th when they travel to Vicarage Road to face Watford, a side that limped to Premier League survival last season and will again struggle to maintain their status in the league. The following Saturday sees the Reds host Crystal Palace in their first game at Anfield for the season, and week three throws up a cracking early-season fixture as they host Arsenal on Sunday, August 27th.

While there will be just three fixtures in the Premier League in August prior to the first International break of the season, Reds fans will have one very keen eye on two other fixtures that fall during the first three weeks – the Champions League qualifying round matches. Liverpool’s opponent is currently undecided, however this two-legged fixture is perhaps their biggest concern, as a victory is crucial to make it to the Champions League group stage.

It will therefore be very interesting to see who Klopp picks for the first couple of EPL matches. Dropping points is dangerous at any time of the season, but the manager may risk fielding a weaker outfit against Watford to ensure the Reds obtain a positive result in the first leg of their qualifying match. If they are able to win comfortably away, Klopp will have much more freedom in his squad selection for the remaining matches in August, particularly that big one against the Gunners.

While there are no easy fixtures in the Premier League these days (and therefore few that fail to excite), everyone always looks to certain fixtures on the calendar when the draw is first released. With Everton making a string of impressive signings recently, and a team the calibre of Manchester United finishing sixth in the league last season, fans will be eagerly anticipating matches against the other teams of the ‘big 7′.

Below are three of Liverpool’s biggest fixtures in the opening eight rounds of the Premier League (note that matches are subject to change due to Cup and European commitments).

Liverpool vs Arsenal – Sunday August 21 @ 4:00pm – Liverpool defeated Arsenal comfortably in both fixtures last season, including a 4-3 thriller at the Emirates. Arsene Wenger’s side, which includes superstar signing Alexandre Lacazette, will need no motivation to be up for this one so early in the campaign.

Manchester City vs Liverpool – Saturday September 9 @ 12:30pm – The Reds managed a home draw and an away victory against City last year and have had plenty of success against them recently. They will be confident of another success here.

Liverpool vs Manchester United – TBC – Weekend commencing Saturday October 14 – Manchester United were the only side in the top seven in 2017 that Liverpool failed to beat, with two draws against Jose Mourinho’s side. They certainly weren’t the first or last team to share the points with United last season and can expect a red bus to turn up to Anfield for this one.

There will be fantastic odds available for each of these matches, and we will provide you with all the latest information and gameday previews right here.

Liverpool Probable Lineup

Liverpool’s eventual lineup is still yet to be confirmed as there are still a number of signings that Klopp simply has to make. As with all big clubs, Liverpool are seemingly linked with every big name under the sun and this off-season has thrown up some crazy targets and ridiculous amounts of money. Names like Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Virgil Van Dijk and even Kylian Mbappe have been linked with the Reds as fans dream up potential squads.

While unlikely, it is not even a guarantee that Liverpool will hold on to all of their stars, especially when clubs like Barcelona are throwing around money like it’s going out of style. Phillipe Coutinho has been linked to some of the world’s best clubs on a regular basis, but surely the lure of bringing a Premier League title to Merseyside with the added bonus of playing in the Champions League is enough to keep him in red?

Liverpool’s biggest signing of the summer to date is Mohamed Salah. The former Chelsea and AC Roma winger is a boost to the Red’s attacking depth which now boosts some incredible talent. Already considered one of the most potent and lethal combinations in the league, Liverpool can now call on the likes of Salah, Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge in the attacking third.

Fans of the Reds will know, however, that the side struggles most defensively. While Van Dijk would be a great signing, it looks as though this may not happen thanks to a bungle that only Liverpool’s management could make. James Milner, although a great worker and incredible player, is not a left-back by nature, while the days of Lucas Leiva filling in at the back look to be over as he is in talks to leave the club. There are holes to fill and Klopp needs to act sooner rather than later.

Squad management will be the key this season. If it’s not possible to play top-class players all over the pitch in every fixture, Klopp needs to ensure they are at least fit and available for the big matches. The problem Liverpool seems to have is that they struggle with the weaker sides, so they will need to also address this.

The Reds are really building towards something special, and with the addition of a few more quality signings and a mostly injury-free season, there is no telling how far they can go both domestically and in Europe. Only time will tell, but there is a sense that this is a great season to be a Liverpool fan, and as a sports bettor, you will know only too well that they currently appear at great value in the outright market. Give it a shot and you could be celebrating just as hard as the team when they win the league!
