Golden State vs Cleveland NBA Finals Game 3 Odds And Prediction

Golden State vs Cleveland NBA Finals Game 3 Odds And Prediction
The Cleveland Cavaliers face a must-win situation after losing two straight against the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena. If the Cavs don't defend home court in game three of the finals, there's virtually zero chance of repeating as NBA champions. LeBron and crew tip off against the Dubs at 9:00 PM EST on Wednesday, June 7th.

During the first half of game two, Cleveland and Golden State looked like they might create the closely-fought classic that everyone’s been waiting for throughout the entire 2016-17 season. Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Steph Curry were trading haymakers while Klay Thompson, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving contributed high-quality minutes into the fray.

Then the third quarter rolled around. Durant and Curry started splashing threes from a few feet beyond the arc while the Cavaliers sputtered briefly, providing the short window required for the Warriors to create a deadly run. LeBron needs his teammates to give a full 48 minutes of their best basketball, or face the ignominious prospect of a sweep.

Point Spread – Bet Golden State Warriors

Despite an average winning margin of 20.5 points during the first two games of the 2017 NBA Finals, sportsbooks appear to believe that game three will result in a close outcome. The point spread has been set at 4.0 on behalf of the Golden State Warriors, a margin that seems to be very modest given the complete domination that the Dubs display during the playoffs.

Part of this has to do with the fact that the Warrior have lost their two previous game threes in Cleveland during the finals. Under normal circumstances, it would be difficult to recommend betting against LeBron on home court in the third game of the NBA Finals. However, this season is far from normal due to the presence of the Warriors as a de facto superteam. You should also remember the fact that the Cavs dropped their only game at home against the Celtics in game three as well. Bet on the Warriors to easily beat the spread.

Moneyline – Bet Golden State Warriors

As you may have guessed, a reduced point spread projection also means that the moneylines have shifted. The Warriors are still listed as favourites, but the Cavaliers have been given better odds to win, mostly because game three takes place at Quicken Loans arena. This is great news for those betting on Golden State’s line, increasing the payout to around $60 per $100 wagered, which represents terrific profit for such a heavy favourite.

On the flip side of the coin, the line for the Cavaliers reflects an improved chance of winning game three, which reduces the payout for wagering on a team which isn’t likely to win a single game during the finals. Previous games featured a payout which would triple the money you put down before the game, whereas the current reward hovers around a 2.4 multiplier on your bet. This isn’t worth the risk – wager on the Warriors moneyline for some easy profit.

Over/Under – Bet Under

After an offensive explosion that completely destroyed the over/under in game two, bookies have responded by raising the projected total to 227, which could be considered an overreaction to the run’n’gun offensive style of both clubs.

However, when you look at the stats, you’ll find that the Warriors have saved their best defence for the finals. During the first three rounds of the playoffs, the Cavaliers scored 120 points per 100 possessions. After the first two games of the finals, that number has plummeted to 97.4 points per 100 possessions, which would be bad enough to rank last in the association.

During their 14-0 run, the Warriors have allowed only 98.8 points per hundred possessions, shaving 9.2 off the league average. Considering that Cleveland will attempt to slow down the pace while Golden State will continue their sterling defence, betting on under will be the safe play this evening.

Warriors vs Cavaliers Predictions

Comparing the first two games of the 2017 NBA Finals with the 2016 edition reveals the surprising fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers performed better this year.

The Warriors won the first two matches in 2016 by a combined margin of 48, while the 2017 version of Golden State routed the Cavs by a total of 41 points.

This may seem like a small difference, but the Cavaliers need every advantage they can muster to turn the momentum of the series. Game three’s the best chance for Cleveland to take a match in the finals, but the Cavs have no answer for this version of Kevin Durant. Pick Golden State to continue their historic romp through the association.

After a monster 38-8-8 line for game one, KD managed to find another level during the second game of the finals. Durant was the best player on the offensive and defensive end of the floor, with 33 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 5 blocks. He pulled this off with great efficiency, hitting 13-22 from the field, including 4-8 from deep.

Draymond Green was limited to 24 minutes due to foul trouble, which means that Durant anchored the defence for much of the evening while he rained fire on the Cavs. Curry wasn’t as efficient as usual, but he still managed to pull off a 32-point triple-double. Steph also set a new playoff record for free throws in a quarter, hitting 10-10 before twelve minutes of game two passed. He finished one away from meeting the record for most foul shots without a miss in the finals, going a perfect 14-14 from the line.

Perhaps most concerning for Cleveland, Klay Thompson finally woke from his extended shooting slump. This particular splash brother scored 22 points on only 12 shots, nailing 4-7 attempts from deep. Despite Klay’s all-star shooting stroke, the Warriors rely on Thompson’s defence far more than his scoring to win basketball games. When both Splash Bros and KD happen to be in rhythm on the same night, there isn’t a team on the planet capable of handling the Warriors.

LeBron was his usual self, pulling off an efficient, 29-point triple-double, and Kevin Love had a solid game with 27 points. Unfortunately, Kyrie couldn’t get it going, scoring 19 points on 8-23 shooting. The Cavs actually played great basketball for most of the game, but the Warriors were simply that much better. Game three will likely follow the established pattern for the 2017 playoffs, resulting in another double-digit win for Golden State.
