Betting on the Champions League is hard. There comes a point when too many unknowns are in play. On Wednesday May 3rd at 2:45pm EST when Monaco host Juventus what can we know for certain? Will Juve take grasp of their Italian roots and play for a draw with the second leg at home? Will the young startup Monaco side have any butterflies playing a Champions League semifinal?

With no history of any relevance between these two squads or managers, Wednesday will be a lot of guess work between two teams playing at the most elite level. So much of any analysis you read or listen to will be speculative at best. But we still ask – How does this game playout?

And when I play this game over and over in my head, Juventus keep winning.

JUVENTUS (+150) BET365

In 10 games in this competition this season, Juventus has given up a grand total of 2 goals. That includes 2 clean sheets against Barcelona in the quarterfinal. So what we can anticipate is that they will be the solid defensive team that they have been all season. This is a constant.

Monaco are electrifying. They are bang for your buck, and can outgun any team on their day. But defensively they have conceded 16 goals in their 10 Champions League matches this season.

We just saw Juventus lock down Messi, Suarez and Neymar so the task of dealing with Kylian M’Bappe and co. is doable for them. What we have not seen is Monaco be able to play a game without giving up scoring chances, it’s just a function of what makes them so fun to watch.

They had the fortune of drawing Man City and Borussia Dortmund, in the round of 16 and quarterfinals; two teams that by all accounts are having disappointing seasons. Now they step up in class to one of Europe’s elite. I see Juventus being able to find solutions to stifle Monaco’s attack. I also see the likes of Dybala and Higuain taking the scoring chances that will surely fall their way.

This season’s cash cows

If you are a loyal reader of this column, firstly, thank you. Secondly, you have probably noticed that I lean heavily on teams when they prove to be consistent winners.

In the stock markets, certain companies become known as cash cows because they consistently generate revenue and provide most portfolios with a solid backbone.

In this financial market, Juventus and Monaco have been this year’s Cash Cows. The Ligue 1 side sits in first place in the division with a 26-5-3 record. The Old Lady is 17-0-0 at home in Serie A. These are the numbers that you build a bankroll on.
