African Cup of Nations 2017 Futures Odds and Prediction

African Cup of Nations 2017 Futures Odds and Prediction
The African Cup of Nations kicks off on January 14, 2017 and features sixteen of the best footballing nations from the continent. Here you will find the best odds and live scores for all tournament fixtures, and our overall winner pick.

Who Will Win the African Cup of Nations?

Africa’s biennial football tournament is back again in 2017 and will be hosted by Gabon from January 14, with the final to be held in Libreville on February 5.

The Ivory Coast will be attempting to defend their 2015 crown and are once again favourites to lift the trophy. However, they will face strong competition from many of Africa’s other heavyweight nations including Cameroon, Ghana and Algeria.

7-time winners Egypt will start at slight outsiders in this year’s tournament and could prove to be good value, while Senegal’s star-studded roster may finally bring home a trophy that has so far been elusive. If you’re looking for an underdog story, host nation Gabon could be your best bet – their greatest tournament finish was in 2012 when they last held the event.

African Cup of Nations 2017 Outright Odds at Bet365

As in all major football tournaments, the group matches in the African Cup of Nations will be pivotal to define an eventual winner.

Group A features a former powerhouse in Cameroon, who have not won the tournament since 2002, tournament hosts Gabon, who will be difficult to beat at home, and Burkina Faso, who were surprise finalists in 2015. Unless Guinea Bissau can punch well above their weight, it looks like a three-way battle to reach the knockout round in this group.

Group B should be dominated by Senegal who despite having not won the tournament look to have the squad and the setup to challenge for this year’s title. Second-place in the group will likely be dependent on the result of the Algeria vs Tunisia matchup, with Zimbabwe making up the numbers and no chance of qualification.

The Ivory Coast will breeze through Group C without much of a challenge. Morocco should also progress, however DR Congo and Togo have improved considerably in recent years and may cause a few scares.

Egypt and Ghana should progress from Group D, however the order in which they do so will be crucial as the runner-up of that group will almost certainly face last year’s winners. Both nations are capable of winning the tournament and good odds are available.

As far as betting is concerned the Ivory Coast present the best chance of winning this tournament, however if you are looking to get more for your money host nation Gabon and Ghana are the most likely outsiders to make a serious title challenge.

African Cup of Nations Outright Prediction

BET IVORY COAST (+400) at BET365

The Ivory Coast are favourites for this tournament and rightly so. They have not lost a competitive fixture since October 2014 and have a number of experienced players that helped the team win the 2015 tournament. The Elephants will be far too strong and take out the title.

There is a very good chance that the final of the tournament will also feature Senegal, a side that have recently eclipsed the Elephants as Africa’s best nation in terms of FIFA rankings. I feel that their lack of big game experience will cost them at the business end of the tournament and they will ultimately fall at the final hurdle.

You will find all of the fixtures for the African Cup of Nations above. Key matchups include:

Gabon vs Cameroon | Group A | The hosts against a traditional giant of African football. This game may well determine the group winner, and the team that will likely avoid Senegal in the first round of knockout fixtures.

Algeria vs Senegal | Group B | A big clash featuring a number of high-profile stars including English Premier League heroes Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City) and Sadio Mane (Liverpool FC).

Algeria vs Tunisia | Group B | The closest thing to a local derby in a continental tournament, and a match that will likely result in progression for one and elimination for the other.

Ghana vs Egypt | Group D | Two of the tournament’s most successful teams face off in a clash that should determine the group winner.
