With the National Hockey League Winter Classic blowout now in the books, the only other match on the NHL betting board at Bet365 today is the Anaheim Ducks vs Vancouver Canucks clash. The Ducks have had zero time to celebrate the New Year as they are playing on back-to-back nights with travel while the Canucks are licking their wounds after being crushed by the Kings on Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 PM ET on January 1, 2016, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. We don't expect much lamp lighting here.
Anaheim Ducks: Defense is leading a reversal of fortune
Vastly underachieving through the first third of the 2015-16 NHL season, Anaheim was 9-11-5 at the end of November, defense has lead the way during the Ducks mini revival during December. Anaheim went 6-4-2 to close out 2015 and they are riding a three-game winning streak since returning from the Christmas break. Defense has been huge for the Ducks as their past six wins were by an 11-4 margin – including back-to-back 1-0 shutouts in Calgary on Tuesday and then in Edmonton last night. Frederik Andersen (5-8-4 GAA 2.59) gives a red-hot John Gibson a night off as he gets the call in this contest. The Ducks will play slightly conservative with Andersen in goal.
Vancouver Canucks: Early season Pacific Division playoff positon has evaporated
Vancouver opens 2016 on the outside of the playoff race in the Pacific Division. The Canucks (14-15-9) went on rollercoaster ride in December as they posted a 5-6-2 record and fell below .500 after getting rocked 5-0 by the Kings at home on Monday night. Vancouver has scored more then two goals just twice during their last nine contests but they have managed to earn at least one point in four of their last five games posting a 3-1-1 mark. With starter Ryan Miller still dealing with a groin injury, Jacob Markstrom (3-4-3 GAA 2.61) will start in goal for the Canucks tonight.
Ducks vs Canucks NHL Call: In the first two meetings this season, both matches were played in Anaheim, Vancouver won 2-1 in a shootout on October 12 and then the Ducks pitched a shutout in a 4-0 win on November 30. Anaheim has trouble scoring goals when 100% rested – they may be a little low on fuel in this contest tonight. Expecting a low scoring affair – we are betting ten units on the UNDER 6.5 total goal price posted on the NHL betting board at the Bet365 sportsbook.

Handicappers who convince themselves - and anyone else who will listen - that the Kentucky Derby is just another race probably haven't cashed too many tickets on the first Saturday in May. The truth is people should bet the Derby differently because of just how unlike any other race it is.
