- The Cavaliers continue to dominate at home. LeBron James provided 33 points and 11 assists for Cleveland in their 104-100 victory over Oklahoma City to improve to 11-1 in their building. Russell Westbrook scored 27 for the Thunder in a losing cause. The Cavs were favoured by two going into last night’s action.
- The Habs couldn’t put anything past Jonathan Quick on Thursday night. The Kings netminder made 45 saves to backstop the Kings (who oddsmakers had as a -110 wager) to 3-0 road blanking of Montreal. Drew Doughty and Marian Gaborik both had a goal and an assist apiece in the win over the Atlantic top’s ranked team. The Pacific leading Kings have been hot of late going 7-1-2 in their last ten outings.
- ESPN reports that the rumblings of Dwight Howard wanting a trade might not be the case. The Rockets big man (currently a disappointing 12-14 in the competitive Southwest division) was rumoured to have expressed an interest in being traded, but follow-up reports suggest that’s not the case. The current framing of things has Houston aware that there’s a serious possibility that Howard might exit via free agency this summer. The Rockets were originally projected as a 20/1 title contender, but they’ve dipped to 66/1 on some Futures boards.
- We’re still in the afterglow of the UFC’s triple set of shows, but there’s another card still in the on deck circle before 2016 arrives. Lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos enters as a -210 favourite to retain his title against charismatic challenger Donald Cerrone on Saturday night in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas. Also on the bill is a heavyweight bout pitting Junior dos Santos (a strong -365 favourite) against Alistair Overeem.
