The Viral Roundup – Streak Snapped Edition

The Viral Roundup – Streak Snapped Edition
Edmonton has the win streak snapped at MSG, the Ravens sign a new QB and the Celtics fall to Cleveland at home. Here's the minty fresh world of sports you're waking up to on the morning of December 16, 2015.

Did You Hear?

Edmonton entered Madison Square Garden with a six game win streak and exited with a 4-2 loss courtesy of the Rangers. New York, a heavy -230 favourite, benefited from markers from Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello in the win which pulls the Rangers to two points back of the Capitals for the Metro’s top spot. The Oilers were stymied by 18 saves from Henrik Lundqvist but did see Taylor Hall’s 15th goal of the year. Although it was his first game back in Manhattan since leaving the Rangers, Cam Talbot did not start for Edmonton.

Did You See?

In the market to learn the dirty rotten truth about the reliably goofy holiday videos churned out by the San Jose Sharks? Now you can with their latest holiday clip that sends up Sharks holiday cheer lore in a silly exposé format. Consider this a crash course in the relationship between Joe Thornton and Slappy the Enchanted Holiday Elf. Tuesday night was good to the Sharks in Montreal. Joe Pavelski scored his 14th of the year to lead San Jose (a +125 road underdog) to a 3-1 win over the Habs.

Did You Know?

- Jarret Stoll has been snatched off waivers by the Minnesota Wild. Stoll, who had three points to his name this season with the Rangers, is still looking to bounce back after some trouble with the law earlier in 2015. The Wild are banking on his veteran presence, Stanley Cup rings and penalty killing acumen to improve their odds in the very competitive Central division. At the moment, Minnesota is a 14/1 shot on a number of Futures boards to lift the Stanley Cup this summer.

- King James scored 24 points and Kevin Love provided 20 to lead Cleveland to victory on Tuesday night. The Cavs (a -120 road favourite) stomped out the Celtics 89-77 at TD Garden to collect their third straight win and add to their lead over Chicago in the Eastern Conference standings. Avery Bradley put 17 points on the scoreboard for Boston who drop to 7-6 at home on the season.

- The Baltimore Ravens are looking to Ryan Mallett to help fix their QB depth issues. The 27-year-old Razorbacks alum started the season with the Houston Texans before being released later in the year. The Ravens are hurting in the pivot spot with Joe Flacco and Matt Schaub out with injury and Jimmy Clausen didn’t exactly set the world on fire when his side was blown out by Seattle 35-6 last weekend. The 4-9 Ravens are considered a seven point home underdog for Sunday’s clash with Kansas City.
