- The Toronto Blue Jays are on the ropes as Kansas City needs just one more win to wrap up the ALCS. The Royals, a +140 moneyline road underdog on Tuesday, absolutely hammered the Jays 14-2 in Game 4 to improve to 3-1 in the series. The 14 runs racked up the Royals set a new franchise record. Toronto knuckleballer R.A. Dickey was chased off the mound before the 2nd inning was through and KC enjoyed homers from Ben Zobrist and Alex Rios. Game 5 takes place this afternoon with Kansas City one victory away from their second straight American League title.
- Duncan Keith will be away from Chicago’s blueline for 4-6 weeks. The reigning Conn Smythe winner underwent surgery for a meniscal tear in his right knee and that’ll keep him on the shelf until possibly December. The 3-3 Blackhawks are considered a 9/1 shot to win the Stanley Cup next summer.
- Landry Jones is currently in the starter’s role for Pittsburgh as their Week 7 showdown versus Kansas City looms on the horizon. The Steelers, who are a two point favourite heading into Sunday, have tapped Jones as the starter largely due to Ben Roethlisberger recovering from injury and same with Michael Vick. Roethlisberger could be in the lineup for this weekend, but his progress is still being closely monitored. Jones impressed in relief last Sunday when he came in for Vick and threw two TDs in a 25-13 win over the NFC West leading Arizona Cardinals.
- The NBA’s GMs have weighed in on who they think is going to emerge as the champs of the Association this summer. 53.8% of general managers that filled out the GM survey for the NBA’s official website say that Cleveland will emergence victorious at the end of the season. That polling syncs up nicely with the Cavs being pegged as an 11/4 title contender by oddsmakers. San Antonio earned 25% of the vote and Golden State earned 17.9% of the pie. The Futures board is a little more kind to these squads with the Spurs a 7/2 wager and the Warriors a 5/1 bet.
