The Viral Roundup – Cubs Win Edition
The Chicago Cubs are NLCS bound, the Los Angeles Dodgers push for Game 5 and Steve Spurrier officially resigns as head coach in South Carolina. Here's the sparkling new world of sports you're waking up to on October 14, 2015.

Did You Hear?

The Chicago Cubs are headed to their first NLCS since 2003. The Cubbies (a -115 moneyline home favourite) wrapped up their series with St. Louis at 3-1 thanks to a triumphant 6-4 defeat of the Cards. Chicago skipper Joe Maddon put eight different pitchers on the mound to clinch the win and Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo and Kyle Schwarber all went yard in the victory. Meanwhile, the Cards exit the postseason after posting the regular season record in baseball.

Did You Know?

- Clayton Kershaw has powered the Dodgers to a sudden death showdown scheduled for tomorrow night. Kershaw held the Mets to a paltry three hits over seven innings as Los Angeles rolled past New York 3-1. The Dodgers racked up all the run support they needed in the 3rd inning thanks to key RBIs from Adrian Gonzalez and Justin Turner. Interesting lineup note for the Dodgers: Chase Utley did not play, but Yasiel Puig returned to the starting lineup and went a disappointing 0-4 at the plate.

- Max Pacioretty potted two and Carey Price stopped 31 shots as Montreal (a +120 moneyline underdog) edged Pittsburgh 3-2 in NHL action. The Habs and Pens are two squads going in very different directions with Montreal now 4-0-0 and Pittsburgh dropping to 0-0-3 on the year. In case you were wondering, the Penguins haven’t started winless in their first three games since Sidney Crosby’s rookie year.

- An injury to Tyrod Taylor has Buffalo scrambling to nab another QB. The Bills have signed veteran pivot Josh Johnson as Taylor’s deals with an undisclosed injury. (CBS reports that it could be a sprained MCL.) It’s unclear what Taylor’s status is for Sunday’s tilt against the Bengals, but it might mean EJ Manuel will step into the starter’s position. The banged-up Bills are considered a three point home underdog heading into Week 6 action.

- Monday’s resignation rumblings were proven true on Tuesday as Steve Spurrier announced that he will be stepping down as the head coach at South Carolina. The 70-year-old coaching legend has served as the winningest coach in Gamecocks history, but has elected to step down after a disappointing 2-4 start to this year’s campaign. Taking Spurrier’s place will be co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Shawn Elliott. He’ll have the position for the remainder of the season and that includes Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt. South Carolina opened as a seven point favourite in that contest, but are now favoured by a field goal.
