- A lot can happen in a week. The Houston Astros have gone from nearly missing the playoffs to a spot where they’re one win away from a spot in the ALCS. The ‘Stros, a light +110 moneyline home underdog, enjoyed a strong five-hit seven inning outing from southpaw phenom to earn a 4-2 victory over the defending AL champs from Kansas City. Carlos Gomez and Chris Carter both went yard in the win and Houston can sew up the series at a deciding 3-1 this afternoon at Minute Maid Park.
- The Kansas City Chiefs are in a rough place right now. Andy Reid’s squad went into Sunday’s action as a 9.5 point home favourite and existed with an 18-17 loss to Chicago and star rusher Jamaal Charles exited the game with what Reid described as a torn ACL. Oof. The Bears rallied from a 17-3 deficit at the half to earn their second straight victory and QB Jay Cutler threw for 252 yards and 2 TDs in the win. Chicago heads to Motown next week to face the division rival Detroit Lions, while Kansas City prepares for a road date with Minnesota.
- It may have taken more than sixty minutes to get there, but the Cincinnati Bengals are now 5-0 on the season. The Bengals (favoured by a field goal on Sunday) edged the resurgent Seattle Seahawks 27-24 in overtime with kicker Mike Nugent kicking the necessary tying and winning FGs to score the home victory. Andy Dalton and the Bengals fought back from a daunting 17 point 4th quarter deficit to keep their winning ways going and tight end Tyler Eifert dazzled with 80 yards receiving and two catches.
- A pick six has granted Atlanta a 5-0 start to the season. Robert Alford hit paydirt after snagging a Kirk Cousins pass and taking it to the endzone for an OT TD as Atlanta topped Washington 25-19. This matinee tilt boasted no shortage of back-and-forth drama and Devonta Freeman looked great for ATL coming up three yards short of a 200 combined yard day at the office. The Falcons can hit 6-0 on Thursday versus the hapless New Orleans Saints.
