The Yankees continue to drift into a speck in the AL East standings chase. Boston hammered New York for six runs in the first inning in a 10-6 Tuesday night beatdown. The Bronx Bombers tumble to a five-and-a-half game gap behind the Blue Jays for top spot in the division and Toronto can clinch by winning one of their games against Baltimore today.

Thirsting for the return of the NBA? We all are. October 27 can’t get here soon enough and it helps to have something to tide us over as we wait. The National Basketball Association has lent a hand by putting together a supercut of the 50 best three-pointers from last season. We’re talking clutch treys and spectacular shots all in one convenient lil’ package. Speaking of hitting crucial shots, oddsmakers have Cleveland as an 11/4 shot to win the NBA title next summer. Trailing behind are San Antonio (3/1), defending champs Golden State (5/1) and Oklahoma City (17/2).

- The Texas Rangers snapped their three game losing steak last night. Cole Hamels notched the win with eight strikeouts over six innings as Texas squeaked out a 7-6 defeat of the Detroit Tigers. Shin-Soo Choo went 2-5 at the plate with a homer as the Rangers racked up nine total hits. Both teams do battle again today with Matt Boyd starting for Detroit and Texas countering with Yovani Gallardo. The Rangers are listed as a -185 moneyline home favourite.
- Perpetually injured Chicago Bull Derrick Rose has suffered even more damage to his body. Rose left practice yesterday with a left orbital fracture and will undergo surgery today. It’s unclear how long Chicago’s prized guard will be out of the lineup for. The 26-year-old star spent a sizable portion of last year dealing with knee trouble. The Bulls are listed as a 20/1 shot to win the NBA Championship in 2015-16.
- We haven’t even reached Week 4 and the Chicago Bears are voluntarily shedding a large chunk of their defense. Pass rusher Jared Allen has been shipped off to Carolina and now the franchise is sending linebacker Jonathan Bostic to New England in exchange for a sixth round draft pick. Bostic was the leading tackler for the Bears in 2014, but didn’t seem to click with new coach John Fox’s 3-4 defensive vision this season. Bostic joins a Patriots team that is 3-0 so far in 2015 and have a bye week to help bring the 24-year-old into their system.
