The Viral Roundup – Rodgers Centre Edition
Did You Hear?
Aaron Rodgers is very good at professional football. The Green Bay QB tossed five TDs, offered up zero picks and guided the Pack to their first 3-0 start since 2011 with a 38-28 victory at Lambeau on Monday night. Randall Cobb caught three of those touchdowns from Rodgers while the Chiefs enjoyed their first TD caught by a wide reciever (in this case Jeremy Maclin) since 2013. The Packers will aim to go to 4-0 next week in San Francisco.

This awesome finish from UFC Fight Night Japan may be a few days old, but the clip is still jawdropping. Uriah Hall and Gegard Mousasi went toe-to-toe in the Octagon with Hall saddled as a +360 underdog. Not only did Hall win, but he finished the fight in spectacular fashion. Check out the amazingess below. Speaking of MMA action, UFC 192 goes down this weekend with Daniel Cormier listed as a -325 favourite to retain his title versus Alexander Gustafsson.
Did You Know?
- The Steelers are going to be without Big Ben for quite a while. Sunday’s left knee injury to Ben Roethlisberger has left the star quarterback with a sprained MCL. ESPN reports that they’ve spoken with a team source that indicates that a 4-6 week recovery timetable is facing #7. This scenario plunks Michael Vick into the starter spot for the time being. Pittsburgh have a clash with Baltimore this Thursday and the visiting 0-3 Ravens are considered a two point favourite.
- The Carolina Panthers have made a deal to improve their defense. The 3-0 NFC South squad has swung a deal with the Bears to bring in pass-rusher Jared Allen. Going the other way in the trade is a conditional draft pick. Allen had been used as a linebacker this year in the Second City but it’s not unreasonable to believe he’ll be transitioned back to his traditional defensive line duties with Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson out with a severe hamstring injury.
- The contract talks between Tristan Thompson and the Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t exactly gone swimingly. The restricted free agent has not sorted out a new deal with the franchise and could miss the start of team practices beginning today. Thompson’s camp pushed a three-year max contract that the Cavs ultimately turned down. Cleveland are currently pegged as an 11/4 shot to win the title next summer.
- Rich Franklin has officially announced his retirement from MMA. The former UFC middleweight champ had been out of fighting for a while (his last bout was a 2012 tilt versus Cung Le), but Franklin said he had one fight remaining on his UFC contract. The 40-year-old has elected to forgo that remaining contest.
