The Viral Roundup – Angel Heart Edition

Huston Street reached the 40 save mark on the season, but it was a tighter squeeze than we imagine the Angels closer would have liked. The Halos escaped a scare in the 9th to top the Astros 6-5 on Wednesday afternoon. Houston established a 4-3 lead heading into the 8th but were knocked around by RBIs courtesy of David Freese and Carlos Perez to lose the upper hand. The win is a plus for the Angels in their playoff chase and Houston are scrambling to return to their AL West perch that’s been taken over by the Rangers.

Furious that “pro wrestling promo skills” are not a part of the NFL Combine? We completely understand. Here’s a nice consolation prize, though. Bleacher Report has persuaded a handful for the league’s rookie stars to try their hand at a wrestling style promo for your amusement. Jameis Winston, Melvin Gordon and Bryce Petty are among the NFL freshman that give promise to inflict pain upon their opponents and we have the full clip below for your convenience.
Did You Know?
- The Seattle Seahawks are about to see their secondary get a much needed talent boost. Safety Kam Chancellor has returned to the team after a contract holdout. Considering how lousy Seattle’s pass defense has looked in Chancellor’s absence, you’d think he might wait for Seattle to beg for his return, but this reemergence comes with no new deal being struck. Seattle’s allowed opponents to collect an average of 9.1 yards-per-reception in their 0-2 season start. The quest for win number one continues on Sunday as the Seahawks (who are currently favoured by two touchdowns) host the lowly Chicago Bears.
- Josh McCown is back from a concussion and the Cleveland Browns say the starting QB job is his. The 1-1 Browns have bumped Johnny Manziel back to bench after offering up a 21-of-39/354 yard aerial attack in McCown’s absence. Cleveland were originally favoured by 4.5 for their upcoming tilt with Oakland, but that numbers been trimmed down over the past few days to 3.5 point home favourite status.
- Things continue to limp along miserably for the Phladelphia Eagles. Running back DeMarco Murray left practice yesterday with a hamstring injury. An MRI is scheduled to check on the rusher’s condition and Ryan Matthews is expected to step into the starter’s role if Murray is unable to play on Sunday. Murray’s had an absolutely dreadful go of things in his first two weeks of action, racking up a measly 11 yards on the year.
- Oklahoma City got the some expected but still welcome news on the status of Kevin Durant. The Thunder superstar has been cleared to return from his foot injury with no restrictions. The former MVP dealt with a foot injury in 2014-15 that ended up sidelining Durant for the season. The Thunder are expected to bounce back in a big way in 2015-16 and oddsmakers are pegging the club as a 17/2 title contender.
