The Lone Star State’s two MLB clubs are slugging it out to see who will snatch the AL West pennant. Texas knocked around Houston 14-3 on Wednesday to grow into a 1.5 game lead in the division. The Rangers teed off for five homers and a chunk of that power got Houston marvel Dallas Keuchel chased from the mound in the 5th. The Rangers can sweep the four game series tonight in Arlington.

How well do NHL superstars know their EA Sports counterparts? That particular skill set was put to the test when All-Stars like Sidney Crosby, Claude Giroux and Tyler Seguin were asked what they thought their NHL ’16 player rating would be. Pretty much everyone interviewed tried to come across as humble, but it’s still fun to see how they translate their on-ice performance to the world of video games.

- The Houston Texans have reportedly decided to go in a different direction at quarterback in Week 2. ESPN says Ryan Mallett can be found at pivot when the Texans take on the Panthers in Carolina. (By the way, the Panthers are favoured by a field goal in that showdown.) Mallett will be taking over for Hoyer who was benched in Sunday’s 27-20 loss at home versus Kansas City. Hoyer went 18-34 with a pick and a TD before Mallett took over and went 8-13 with a touchdown pass and a successful two point conversion.
- Thursday Night Football goes down tonight with Kansas City and Denver going helmet-to-helmet in an AFC West clash. The Chiefs are pegged as a three point home favourite and they help to build on the momentum from Sunday’s defeat of Houston that featured tight end Travis Kelce scoring two TDs in the first quarter. Meanwhile, the Broncos are looking to get their offense going after a messy season opening win against Baltimore.
- The New Jersey Devils have signed free agent Jiri Tlusty to a single year deal worth $800K. The 27-year-old Czech center split time in Carolina and Winnipeg last season where racked up 31 points in 72 games.
- A long teased MMA superfight might be a step closer to happening. Cris Cyborg told the press that she believes that she can get down to 135 pounds for a fight against UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey. It’s a bout that’s been considered a fantasy for a lot of fighting fans considering Cyborg’s previous claims that she could never cut down to that weight class. (Cyborg’s pitched a catchweight tilt previously, but that’s been shot down.) The prospect of a Rousey-Cyborg fight has speculation brewing that it could be the marquee matchup on next summer’s UFC 200. A major test for Cyborg will be seeing if she can hit 140 pounds for her Invicta fight in November.
