The Viral Roundup – Another Brady Victory Edition
Did You Hear?
Tom Brady has been freed from his Deflategate suspension prison. U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman has overturned the four game suspension the NFL handed the New England QB and that means Brady is now available for every Patriots game. That said, the league will appeal and there are circumstances with such an appeal where the suspension might be reinstated. Oddsmakers have made some adjustments in light of the Brady news. The Pats were originally a three point favourite in Week 1 versus the Steelers, but the line’s been beefed up to a 6.5 margin. William Hill has done some futures retooling as well. New England have gone from a 12/1 Super Bowl 50 wager to a 9/1 shot.

Desperate for the return of hockey? Us too. The NHL doesn’t open up shop for another month, but here’s a video of drooled over Sabres rookie Jack Eichel “mic’d” up at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Toronto. Speaking of Eichel, Buffalo are currently listed as a 100/1 longshot to win the Stanley Cup next summer.
Did You Know?
- The Minnesota Twins weren’t able to close out the sweep on Thursday afternoon. The Twinkies found themselves on the receiving end of a 8-6 edging at the hands/bats of the Chicago White Sox. Jose Abreu went 3-4 (including two doubles) in the ChiSox victory and closer David Robertson collected his 28th save of the season. Chicago will now venture off to Kansas City to face the Royals, while Minnesota aims to bounce back in Houston against the AL West leading Astros.
- Speaking of teams aiming to pull themselves into a playoff spot, the Nationals absolutely obliterated the Braves last night. Ryan Zimmerman went 3 for 3 at the plate with 4 RBIs and Jordan Zimmerman put in six strong innings on the mound to collect his 12th win of 2015. (One neat statistical quirk from last night: Bryce Harper scored four runs without recording a single hit.) This was the first of a four game set that continues tonight in Washington. The Nationals are listed as a -190 moneyline home favourite.
- Jim Harbaugh’s first official game as head coach at the University of Michigan could have gone a tad better. His squad (who went in a five point underdog) was smacked around by Utah on Thursday night. Wolverines QB Jake Rudock had a rough night throwing three picks, while Utah showed why they could be a real threat in the Pac-12.
- Colts coach Chuck Pagano appears to be on the hot seat heading into a new Indy season. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that there is a major rift between Pagano and GM Ryan Grigson. Pagano is in the final year of his deal with Indianapolis and has turned down one-year extension offers while receiving nothing in the way of a long-term offer. The Colts are pegged as a 17/2 Super Bowl contender by oddsmakers.
