The American League will enjoy the perks of home at this year’s Fall Classic. Mike Trout and Brian Dozier both went yard to help power the AL to a 6-3 All-Star Game victory over the NL. Trout has managed to pull of the surprising feat of hitting for the cycle as an All-Star. The 23-year-old Angels phenom has hit a single, a double, a triple and now a jack over the past four Midseason Classics. (Trout nabbed MVP honours and is the first player to garner consecutive All-Star MVP trophies in MLB history.) Tigers hurler David Price scored the W, while Clayton Kershaw was saddled with the L by the time the game was through in Cincinnati. The American League’s been dominant in All-Star Games over the past two decades. The AL’s won the last three showdowns and 15 of the last 19 ASGs.

Tiny tots getting accidentally mowed down by objects has been a staple fof AFV clipdom scaling back to the days where the show was a radio play. (Those days never existed, but you see where we’re getting at.) Feast your eyes on this slice of video featuring a dad gently kicking a toy soccer ball into the air and wiping out a knee-high moppet in the process.
Did You Know?
- Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred says expansion’s a possibility for America’s Pastime. ”Maybe one of the reasons I got this job is, I’m bullish on this game,” ESPN reports Manfred as saying. “I think we are a growth business, broadly defined. And over an extended period of time, growth businesses look to get bigger. So yeah, I’m open to the idea that there will be a point in time where expansion may be possible.” The Majors has prepared a list of possible expansion and relocation (hi Tampa) sites should the time come. Montreal’s said to be a contender, but a new stadium is key to the Quebec city securing an MLB rebirth.
- Curious who oddsmakers consider the best bet heading into the second half of the MLB season? That distinction goes to the AL Central leading Kansas City Royals who are saddled with 6/1 odds. Located not too far behind are St. Louis and Washington both clocking in as 15/2 wagers. The lowest ranked division leader on the futures board would be the AL East topping New York Yankees at 16/1. The biggest longshot? That’s Philadelphia who has a 1000/1 projection staring back at them.
