Todd Frazier played the role of hometown hero on Monday night. The Cincinnati Reds slugger emerged victorious as the champ of the new look Home Run Derby and became the only batter aside from Ryne Sandberg to pull of the feat in their home park. Frazier outdueled Prince Fielder, Josh Donaldson and finalist Joc Pederson on his path to derby immortality. The revamped format scored warm reviews online with a sizable chunk of social media praising the contest as one of the best in ages.

John Oliver is very good at tearing things a new a**hole. This week, the English comic served as the voice of reason on the subject of public funding being used to pay for new arenas and stadium. It’s hilarious, brilliant and will spiral you into a moderate rage over the decadence and arrogance of billionaire franchise owners.

Did You Know?

- Major League Baseball’s Midseason Classic takes place tonight with the prize once again being home field advantage in the World Series. The National League are currently positioned as a one-and-a-half run favourite in tonight’s All-Star Game which takes place in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dodgers hurler Zach Greinke (who currently possesses an incredible 1.39 ERA) is on the mound of the NL, while the AL counters with bearded Astros southpaw Dallas Keuchel. Last year’s All-Star Game featured the American League topping the National League 5-3 in Minnesota.

- The standoff between the Dallas Cowboys and star wide reciever is still very much in progress. #88 has reportedly informed America’s Team that he’ll be sitting out training camp and regular season play into a new pact is struck. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has denied that such a demand was laid out to him by Bryant. The wideout is seeking a new long-term deal with Dallas. At the moment, the Cowboys are pegged as a solid 10/1 shot to win the Super Bowl.

- Ryan O’Reilly has found himself in trouble with the law after getting busted for impaired driving last week. The Ontario Provincial Police announced on Monday that Buffalo’s newly acquired centre has been charged after crashing his vehicle into a Tim Hortons and fleeing the scene. A court date has been set for August.
