A light five-game night in the National Hockey League greets bettors at the Bet365 online sportsbook tonight. Our focus is on the Tampa Bay Lightning vs Columbus Blue Jackets contest as a pair of struggling clubs clash in Ohio. The Lightning are a better team than their record indicates while the Blue Jackets are adjusting to life without goalie Sergei Bobrovsky who is out for at least three week with a lower-body injury. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 PM ET on December 14, 2015, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Tampa Bay Lightning: Contenders are playing like pretenders
Tied with three other teams, Montreal, New York and Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay was posted as top chalk to win the NHL Eastern Conference back in the preseason. Slow out of the starting gate, with 14-13-3 overall record, the Lightning are eleventh in the East and three points out of a Wild Card playoff position. The Bolts have been better recently as they have won six of their last ten games. Ben Bishop (12-9-2 GAA 1.96) get the call in net tonight and he has allowed just 12 goals over his last nine starts. Bishop’s miniscule goals against average is the second best mark in the NHL.
Columbus Blue Jackets: Tied with the Toronto Maple Leafs for last place overall in the NHL
Opening their season with a rather dismal 2-10-0 record put Columbus in a deep hole and they have been digging out ever since. The Blue Jackets appeared to be turning things around as they went 8-5-0 in November thanks in large part to goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Though still battling hard, and earning points along the way, wins have been difficult to come by in December as Columbus is 1-2-3 through six games this month. With Bobrovsky sidelined, Columbus netminder Joonas Korpisalo has been called up from the minors and he makes his NHL debut in goal tonight.
