St. Louis Cardinals: Still the best team in the Majors

Despite a mini four game slide, St. Louis (52-28) is the still the best team in baseball as the Cardinals are 5.5 games ahead of Houston in the overall standings. The Cards lead in the National League Central is six games over the Pittsburgh Pirates. After outscoring their opponents by a 30-9 margin during a six game winning streak, St. Louis dropped four straight by a 16-6 combined count. The Cards snapped their season high losing streak (4) with a 2-1 win over the Padres yesterday.

San Diego Padres: Finding it difficult to keep pace with Los Angeles

Not the worst team in baseball, the Padres are 14th overall with 344 runs scored, San Diego has a pitching problem as the Friars are sporting a 4.03 team ERA. Sitting with a 39-44 record, the Padres trail the Dodgers by 7.5 games in the NL West and San Diego is six games off the pace in the National League Wild Card race. Rolling into the Show Me State on a 5-11 losing run, San Diego won the first two games of this series 5-3 in eleven innings on Thursday and then 2-1 on Friday.

Padres vs Cardinals MLB Game Day Call: As they do just about every time out, the Cardinals have a pitching edge in this contest. Cards RHP Lance Lynn (5-4 ERA 2.74) will face Padres RHP Ian Kennedy (4-7 ERA 4.86) in the battle on the bump. Lynn has allowed just five earned runs over 30.2 innings pitched during his last five starts. We like St. Louis to earn a series split here so we’ll soar with the Red Birds and a 1000 unit wager on the money line price posted at SportsInteraction.
