Riding a four wager winning streak, our handicapping Crew looks to keep the good times rolling as we preview and predict the Pittsburgh vs Arizona contest today. NL Central Playoff Race: Pirates are closing in on Milwaukee
One of the hotter teams in baseball coming out of the All-Star break, Pittsburgh is riding a 10-5 run including two straight wins in Arizona. The Pirates end a ten game road trip today and they have closed to within 1.5 games of the NL Central leading Brewers. Following a battle with a strained left oblique, LHP Francisco Liriano (3-7 ERA 3.97) has returned to stud status. The veteran has allowed just two earned runs (23 K’s) over his last 19 innings pitched and Pittsburgh is 3-0 in those starts. The Buccos have outscored the D-Backs 17-7 in the last two games.
Injury added to insult as Diamondbacks long losing season continues
Manager of the Year in 2011, Arizona skipper Kirk Gibson finds himself on the hot-seat as the Diamondbacks are 48-63 and 15 games out of first in the NL West. Things have gone from bad to worse as All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt suffered a fractured hand in Friday’s 9-4 loss to the Pirates. Goldie was leading Arizona in all five major offensive categories – Batting Average, Home Runs, Runs Batted In, Hits and OBP. RHP Trevor Cahill (1-8 ERA 5.59) allowing 19 hits and 13 runs (9 earned) over his last 15 innings, gets the call for the D-Backs.
MLB Call: Raise the Jolly Roger by backing the Buccos with 500 units on the bet365 sportsbook money line.
