With Championship Finals action in the NHL and NBA both taking a night off, and with the horses resting comfortably in the stables at Belmont Park prior the Belmont Stakes race on Saturday, today we check in on Major League Baseball action. The Milwaukee Brewers vs Pittsburgh Pirates contest caught our eye and this MLB National League Central battle is slated for 7:05 PM ET from PNC Park in the Steel City. We’ll back the Brew Crew here.
Milwaukee ace Kyle Loshe looks to keep the Brewers rolling
Looking to become the fourth eight game winner in the National League this season, Kyle Loshe (7-1 ERA 2.60) heads to the hill for Milwaukee tonight. Following a so-so 11-10 campaign last season, his first with the Brewers after five years in St. Louis, Loshe has been lights in 2014 as his walks plus hits per innings number is at a career best 1.00 and hitters have registered a meager .195 batting average against the veteran right-hander. Milwaukee, a pleasant surprise this season, leads the NL Central by five games over the Cardinals and seven over Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh has righted the ship some after a rock early season start
Written off by some after they opened the 2014 MLB season with a 12-20 record, the Pirates (28-31) have their ship sailing more smoothly lately as the Bucco’s have posted a 10-5 recent record. That said, the Brewers have been bashing the Steel City Crew this year as their season series sits at 8-2 in favor of Milwaukee. Sophomore RHP Brandon Cumpton gets the call for Pittsburgh as he looks to shake off his last start that was a disastrous 3.2 inning 11 hits and 10 runs allowed performance against the Dodgers. We like Loshe over Cumpton in this contest.
