New York vs Detroit: American League Playoff Style Excitement

Playoff races continue across Major League Baseball as Detroit hosts New York in the rubber match of a key three-game series in the Motor City. The Tigers have been tanking while the Yankees are one of the hotter teams in the majors. This is a matinee affair as first pitch flies at 1:08 PM ET on August 28, 2014, at Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan.

Tigers need to get up off the mat – sooner rather than later

Sitting with a five game lead over Kansas City on August 2nd, and having just acquired Cy Young award winner David Price from Tampa Bay, Detroit looked like they were going to run away with the American League Central title. Fast forward to the present and the Tigers have tanked themselves right out of a playoff position. The fall has been hard and fast as the Cats have gone 9-12 over their past 21 games. That includes an 8-4 rout vs the Bronx Bombers last night. Tigers rookie LHP Kyle Lobstein makes his first Major League start in this contest today.

New York Yankees are looking to send Derek Jeter out in style

After the Tigers honored Kalamazoo Central High School grad Derek Jeter in a very classy “last visit to Detroit” ceremony at Comerica Park, the Captain went out and drove in two runs during the Yankees bat around and then some eight run third inning last night. New York is now just 2.5 games out of the Wild Card race as they look to get Jeter back to the playoffs for his 159th game – which would build on his Major League record and a list that also includes 734 plate appearances. RHP Hiroki Kuroda (9-8 ERA 3.94) get the call to the bump for the Yankees.

As a life long Tiger fan, I’m not ashamed to say I will miss Jeter and the class he brought to baseball and delivered to the world. The Captain has been a rock solid role-model and he always gave his all in between the lines.

MLB Game Total Prop Prediction: Not sure who is going to come out on top here – we did a little digging. Eight of the last nine Yankees contests, along with the last six Tigers games, have gone over 6.5 runs. That price is part of the Alternate Game Total line offerings at bet365 today. Though hitters could be weary from last night – this is big game as the Yankees would gain a full game on Detroit who sit .05 back of Seattle for the final Wild Card spot. We’ll go conservatively here and wager 300 units on the over 6.5 run total (-300) at bet365.
