Nationals vs Astros: Strike With A K Master In This Contest

Sticking with Major League Baseball, and continuing our feast on one of the MLB cellar dwellers, our focus is on the Washington Nationals vs. Houston Astros contest tonight. While the Nats aren’t exactly on a roll – the Stros are a bad ball club. First pitch, from the opulent Minute Maid Park in Houston Texas, is slated for 8:10 PM ET on April 29, 2014.

Washington Nationals: Moving on without Bryce Harper’s bat

Heading out on a mini five-game road trip, Washington is leaving the District minus the big bat of young star Bryce Harped who is expected to be out until early July with a torn ligament in his thumb. That is not good news for a team already without Wilson Ramos and Ryan Zimmerman as that trio that accounted for 62 of the Nationals 161 homers last season – ouch! The saving grace is strikeout ace Gio Gonzalez (3-1 ERA 3.00) is on the bump for the Nationals. Gonzo has fanned 29 hitters over 30 innings pitched this year and the ‘Stros average 8.8 K’s a game.

Houston Astros: Feeling good after four game series split vs. the A’s

After they were blown out 10-1 and 12-5 to open a weekend series against Oakland, Houston got up off the mat and registered 7-6 and 5-1 wins to salvage a split against their AL West rival Athletics. Don’t let the mini two-game winning streak (just their third this season) fool you as the Astros are still one of the worst baseball teams in recent memory. Prior to the weekend wins Houston had lost ten of 12 games. ‘Stros starter RHP Jarred Cosart has been treated like a human pinata recently as he has allowed 17 earned runs over his last 19 innings pitched – Yikes!
