Houston vs Los Angeles: Two Hot Clubs Clash in Southern California
Looking to continue a September to remember, Anaheim hosts Houston in Major League Baseball AL West division action tonight. Los Angeles, winners of nine of their eleven games this month, face a fairly hot Houston squad that has recorded victories in six of their last nine contests. First pitch is slated for 9:05 PM ET on September 12, 2014, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, in Anaheim, California. We like the Halos in this contest.
Angels are runaway leaders in AL West Division playoff race
We’re not sure which is more shocking, the rise of the Angels – or the fall of the Athletics, but the fallout has Los Angeles running away with the American League West regular season title. Not only that, with a 92-55 record, the Angels are now the top team in baseball. Anaheim has lost just two of their last 17 games and they were both versus the Astros – who lost 11-3 in the series opener last night. Though not the total lock he once was, RHP Jered Weaver (16-8 ERA 3.58) gets the start tonight and the Angels have won six of his last eight starts.
No quit Astros continue to battle despite being playoff eliminated
When they should be tanking, to gather even more high round draft picks, Houston is one of the hotter teams in baseball. While a seventh straight losing season is now assured, the Astros have won nine of their last 13 games. It’s a rather shocking run but a suddenly solid Houston pitching staff has given up three runs or less in eight of the past eleven games. RHP Scott Feldman (8-10 ERA 3.99) heads to the hill for Houston coming off a 4-3 loss to the Athletics after he gave up three runs on seven hits over 8.1 innings pitched. He is in tough here.
