Dodgers vs Braves: MLB National League Playoff Style Contest
Two clubs in the thick of the National League playoff race square off in SoCal tonight as Los Angeles hosts Atlanta in the second of a three game series. The Dodgers secured the opener 8-4 last night and send Zack Greinke to the mound to face the Braves Alex Wood tonight. First pitch flies 10:10 PM ET, July 30, 2014, from Dodger Stadium, in California.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Aiming for a fifth straight victory
Following two post MLB All Star break series loses, both by 2-1 counts in St. Louis and Pittsburgh, Los Angeles rolled into San Francisco and swept the Giants in a three game series to regain their overall lead in the NL West. The Dodgers further padded the lead after their win last night over these Braves that was coupled with the Giants loss to Pittsburgh. LA has outscored their opponents 25-8 during their four game winning streak – now that’s hot.
Tonight’s pitching match favors the home team at Chavez Ravine
Zack Greinke (12-6 ERA 2.74 ) gets the call for LA and he’s coming off a seven shutout inning performance where he gave up just four hits with ten strikeouts in the Dodgers 8-1 victory over San Fran last Friday. Greinke has been especially hot at home as he is 6-1 with a 2.73 ERA and 68 strikeouts over 52.2 innings pitched at Chavez Ravine this season. Atlanta counters with Alex Wood (7-8 ERA 3.44) who has allowed ten runs over his last 15.1 innings. That includes five runs on 12 hits to the Padres, who are dead last with a .218 team batting average, on July 25.
