After browsing the NHL schedule for Thursday, February 7, 2013, we have highlighted the game between the Detroit Red Wings and the St. Louis Blues from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The puck drops at 8 PM ET in what should be an extremely entertaining game. We will back the host Blues in tonight’s tilt.
St. Louis Blues: Third meeting between rivals
St. Louis has started the season on a 6-3-0 run, but has lost the last two games they have played. The Blues are 3-1-0 at home and started the shortened season with a win against Detroit by a score of 6-0. The Blues recent two-game losing streak saw them drop games to St. Louis by a score of 5-3 and to the Nashville Predators by a score of 6-1. The Blues have not lost three straight in the regular season in almost two years.
Detroit Red Wings: Hoping for second straight win over hosts
Detroit knocked off the Blues last week by a score of 5-3, but in the win they allowed two power play goals. The Red Wings penalty kill has been abysmal this year, allowing a league-high 13 power play goals. Detroit’s defense is bad all-around, allowing a league-high two shorthanded goals this year. Detroit is just 4-4-1 this year overall and 1-2-1 on the road. The Red Wings have lost two straight games overall.
As the shortened NHL season gets deeper into its brief schedule, teams are getting closer and closer to must-win territory. The Red Wings are closing in on that territory, but have not quite reached it yet. For tonight’s game, we take a look at the sportsbook found at Bet365.com, where the Blues are -1.5 (+160) favorites at home. We will bet 15 percent of our bankroll on the spread and the Blues on Thursday night.
