Detroit vs Buffalo: High Flying Red Wings Face Sinking Sabres
National Hockey League action is our focus today as we preview and predict the Detroit versus Buffalo contest. The Red Wings are getting hot as they try to hold on to their spot in playoffs while the Sabres are wishing the season had ended months ago. Puck drop, from the famed Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI, is slated for 7:30 PM EDT on April 4, 2014.
Red Wings are aiming for 23rd straight playoff appearance
Though still not a given, Detroit is in control of their own destiny as they look to secure an invitation to the NHL postseason party. Thanks to a 6-3-1 recent record, the Red Wings currently own the first of two Wild Card spots as they lead Columbus by one point. The Wings are also two points clear of ninth place Toronto who have played two more games. Detroit last played on Wednesday night as they beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 at The Joe.
Buffalo Sabres: Playing out the string as the worst team in the NHL
One has to wonder what motivates teams that know their playoff chances have long passed. That’s the scenario Buffalo is facing as the Sabres are dead last in the NHL with a 21-46-9 record and just 51 points. Playing on back to back nights, on the road against playoff contenders, must make motivation even harder to come by. Buffalo put up a good fight against the Blues (NHL top team) last night but dropped a 2-1 decision in St. Louis.
