Chicago vs Carolina: Hurricanes Blow Into the Windy City to Battle the Blackhawks

Chicago vs Carolina: Hurricanes Blow Into the Windy City to Battle the Blackhawks
National Hockey League action is our free pick focus as the Chicago Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes get back to work following the NHL Christmas break. Both teams have been on the winning side of streaky during the first part of December as they have posted a combined 13-8-2 record. The Hawks are tied for third in the Western Conference while the ‘Canes are seven points out of a playoff spot and sit 13th in the Eastern Conference. Puck drop for this fire on ice action is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on December 27, 2015, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. We are soaring with the Hawks in the Windy City.

Blackhawks aim to rebound from dismal effort in Dallas

During one of the strangest runs in recent memory, Chicago (20-12-4) posted a 5-2 record heading into the Christmas break. During those seven games the Blackhawks posted a pair of 4-0 wins, one 2-0 win, plus 3-2 (SO) and 4-3 (OT) extra time victories while the losses were 3-0 and 4-0 shutouts. So 13-5 scores during the wins and 7-0 scores in the losses – strange games indeed. The Hawks 44 points has them tied with Los Angeles for third in the West but they trail St. Louis by four and Dallas by nine points in the race for top spot in the Central Division. Chicago entered the Christmas break with a lackluster 4-0 loss to the Stars as they were outshot by a 32-20 count in the Lone Star State.

Carolina Hurricanes: Positive December brings the ‘Canes renewed playoff hope

Although still a long way from where they want to be, Carolina has produced some positive results recently. Following a 5-6-0 season start in October, Carolina skidded some as they posted a 3-6-4 record in November. A 6-4-1 winning mark in December is a reason for optimism as the ‘Canes sit seven points out of a playoff spot in the East. The Hurricanes have played in some close contests recently as their past six game were decided by two goals or less – including four one-goal games. Prior to the break, Carolina posted a 3-1 home win over the New Jersey Devils last Saturday.

Chicago vs Carolina NHL Call: Corey Crawford (18-9-2 GAA 2.22) faces Eddie Lack (3-6-2 GAA 3.34) in the netminding matchup tonight. Crawford makes an eighth straight start here and, although he has posted three shutouts this month, he is looking to bounce back after allowing four goals in Dallas. Lack’s play has been lacking as he has allowed three or more goals during eight of his twelve appearances and 35 total goals this season. Not seeing the Carolina offense bailing out Lack against Crawford, who is a 12-4-1 with a tiny 1.65 GAA at home, we are backing Chicago here. Load up on the Hawks with a 1000 unit wager on the money line price posted at BetOnline.
