Chicago Blackhawks vs Arizona Coyotes NHL Western Conference Desert Duel
Chicago Blackhawks: Cup Champs cruise into first in the West
Following a sluggish start, by their own lofty standards, Chicago was 13-9-4 and trailed Dallas by eleven points in the Central Division on December 4, 2015. Since then though, the Blackhawks have been among the hottest teams in the league as they have posted a 21-7-0 recent record and now own a three-point lead on the Stars. Dallas does however have three games in hand on the Hawks. That said, the Windy City Crew have been offensively challenged lately as they scored just five goals while going 2-3 heading into and coming out of the All-Star break. The Hawks won 2-1 in Colorado on Tuesday during their first game back from the All-Star break. The defending Champs have had their way with the ‘Yotes going 7-1-2 while outscoring Arizona 41-27 during the last ten meetings.
Arizona Coyotes: Surprisingly strong NHL season start is beginning to wilt in the desert
Putting up some fairly solid numbers, in what was a weak Pacific Division early on in the season, Arizona was third and just two points out first with a 13-9-1 record at the end of November. On a rollercoaster style run since, the Coyotes are 11-12-4 over their last 27 matches, Arizona has fallen out of a playoff spot as they are now a tiebreaker behind the soaring Anaheim Ducks. Following a four game winning streak, the ‘Yotes have slumped to a 2-5-1 recent record including blowout a losses at Winnipeg (5-2) prior to the break and at home vs Los Angeles (6-2) in their last contest on Tuesday. The Coyotes lost 7-5 in Glendale, on December 29, 2015, in the first of three meetings between these teams this season. Arizona is 28th in the NHL allowing 3.02 goals against per game.
Arizona vs Chicago NHL Call: Corey Crawford (29-12-2 GAA 2.11) faces Louis Domingue (9-6-3 GAA 2.51) in between the pipes tonight. Though he wasn’t sharp, and was pulled after one period, during a 5-0 loss in Carolina on January 26, Crawford has allowed two goals or less in ten of his last twelve starts including his 2-1 win over the Avalanche on Tuesday. Domingue has allowed three or more goals in five of his last twelve starts and five goals in both of his last two outings. Led by Patrick Kane, who is first in goals, assists and points, Chicago top six skaters have recorded 245 points. The Coyotes top six, led by Mikkel Boedker, have posted 184 points.
