Anaheim Ducks: Haves some pros with home ice advantage
After posting a rock solid 26-12-3 home record during the regular season, Anaheim is 7-1 at the Honda Center during the 2015 NHL playoffs. The Ducks took out Winnipeg by a 6-3 count in two home games, the Flames were roasted 12-3 during three visits to the Duck Pond and they are 2-1 outscoring the Hawks by an 11-8 margin in this series. Anaheim coaches having the last line change is a major component of the Ducks ”heavy” style of play and it will be a factor in tonight’s contest. Anaheim also has the shorter bench change for two of the three periods tonight.
Chicago is well aware of the Ducks habit of crashing during Game Seven playoff battles
Home sweet home hasn’t been all that sweet for the Ducks recently. In their last two Game Seven matches at home the Ducks were crushed 6-2 by the Kings in the 2014 semifinals and they dropped a 3-2 decision to Detroit in their 2013 quarterfinal series. Dating back to 2010, this is the 19th playoff series for Chicago and it’s just the third time they have played in a Game 7 and the first as visitors. The Hawks lost 5-4 in OT to the Kings at the United Center in the Conference Final last year and won their 2013 semifinal series with a 2-1 OT win vs Detroit at the Madhouse on Madison.
Ducks vs Blackhawks Western Conference Final Prediction: While we believe the hometown “fan effect” is somewhat overrated, Anaheim also has an often-overlooked advantage tonight. The Ducks will be the “last man to set in the faceoff circle” and they were 139-117 in faceoffs won during the first three games at the Honda Center. During the three contests in Chicago, the Hawks held a 116-90 advantage. We have the first horse in the Stanley Cup Final race thanks to our Tampa Bay February futures wager. With Anaheim as our preseason selection – we’ll have both horses if the Ducks win tonight. Tempted to kick back and enjoy some “Game Seven Heaven” we will instead place a small parlay wager here.
