Baltimore has finally tied the Yankees atop the AL East after erasing a 10-game deficit dating back to June. Now, the O’s will attempt to take sole possession of first place with a win over the Blue Jays Wednesday night September 5, 2012. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM ET.
Orioles Aim for Sole Possession of First Place in AL East
After knocking off the Blue Jays Tuesday night 12-0, the Orioles pulled into a first-place tie in the AL East with the Yankees. Now, they send out rookie Miguel Gonzalez Wednesday night in the hopes of pulling off a sweep of Toronto. This is the first time since 1997 where the Orioles find themselves in first place in the division in the month of September. If the roll continues, the Orioles could find themselves in the playoffs via a division title or a Wild Card berth.
Blue Jays Trying to Stave Off Sweep at the Hands of Orioles
Toronto is in last place in the AL East as the season winds down and has lost four straight games. Manager John Farrell could be in danger of losing his job if the Blue Jays cannot climb out of the basement. Brandon Morrow, who has been a lone bright spot for the Blue Jays this year, will toe the rubber in the final game of the series tonight. He is searching for win number 9 and has an ERA of 2.93.
Baltimore is on such a hot streak right now that there is no way we are going to bet against them tonight as they face the Blue Jays. Sportsinteraction.com has a moneyline of -110 for Gonzalez and the Orioles Wednesday night at 7:07 PM ET.
