Alabama Crimson Tide vs Clemson Tigers 2016 NCAAF National Championship Call
Crimson Tide: Dominant “pro-style” defense is devastating
Aiming for his fifth NCAAF National Championship, which would leave him one victory behind legendary Alabama head coach Bear Bryant who won six, Nick Saban brings an NFL style defense into the home of the Arizona Cardinals tonight. Despite facing eight opponents who were ranked #18 or better this season, including four squads that were in the Top Ten, the Crimson Tide led the Nation in scoring defense as they allowed just 13.36 points per game. Alabama also ranked second in total defense (257 YPG) and opponents yard per play (4.09) during their 13-1 run this year. The lone loss was early as the Tide dropped a 43-37 decision to #12 Ole Miss, at home in Tuscaloosa no less, way back in Week 3. Since then, Alabama has won eleven straight contests by a 364-117 margin including a 38-0 mauling of the Michigan State Spartans in the Cotton Bowl CFP Semifinal.
Tigers are looking to close out a perfect 2015 NCAAF season with a Championship
Despite being the #1 team in the Nation since Week 10, when they jumped over Ohio State and Baylor, Clemson is an underdog for a second straight playoff week. The Tigers headed into their Orange Bowl semifinal playoff battle with Oklahoma as +3.5 pups and slaughtered the Sooners by a 37-17 count – pushing their record to a perfect 14-0 mark. Led by QB Deshaun Watson, who has posted 4731 total yards and 43 TD this season, Clemson is offence first and they are supported by a bend don’t break defense. That was evident during the Tigers last six regular season games that were decided by a 38-27 average final score. Not disparaging their perfect season – Clemson played a #29 ranked strength of schedule in 2015 while Alabama fought through the #1 SOS. The Tigers were clutch this season as their third down conversion rate ranks #9 while the Tide are well back with a #97 ranking. Since defense wins Championships – the Tigers are in trouble here.
