With the NHL playoffs starting on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, we use this post to take a look at two Eastern Conference first-round series. We feature the Montreal Canadiens vs Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins vs. New York Islanders series. We like the Penguins and the Canadiens to win their opening round series in the 2013 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.
Pittsburgh Penguins: Best team in Eastern Conference
Pittsburgh finished the regular season with an overall record of 36-12-0, good for 72 points and the best record in the Eastern Conference. They drew the New York Islanders in the first-round, who fell to the eight seed last night when Ottawa won their final game. We like the Penguins in this series.
Montreal Canadiens: Tough draw against Senators
Montreal opens its playoff run against the Ottawa Senators, a team that can pose a major problem for them. The Canadiens played to a +23 differential this season while the Senators played to a +12 differential. We like the Canadiens to take this series in seven, hard-fought games against Ottawa.
